Joy Embroidery Tutorial

You know we love hand embroidery at Make.Do.! This joy embroidery kit is designed as a stitch sampler, which means you get to practice seven different stitches and end up with a new masterpiece to add to your holiday decor!

Supplies:

Grab a kit or gather the following supplies:

  • embroidery floss
  • needle
  • needle threader (optional)
  • 6″ embroidery hoop
  • fabric or muslin
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • joy embroidery pattern

Trace and prep.

We’ll start by tracing the pattern. Draw as lightly as possible and try not to be too “sketchy” with your lines. That will make it easier to cover your pencil marks later. Don’t trace the outside circle on your pattern; it represents the inner hoop to help you center your fabric.

Check out this tutorial for step-by-step pictures on how to trace your pattern and load your embroidery hoop.

Time to stitch!

These short videos will teach each of the seven stitches for the joy embroidery pattern. Follow along, or go rogue and substitute your favorite stitches instead.
